How live prices move on an exchange

The in-play delay

Every new user notices it: tap a price, confirm, and the bet takes a few seconds to go through. During that window the price may move, and the bet either matches at your requested price, matches at a better one, or sits in the Unmatched tab. This is the placement delay, and every exchange in the world applies one to in-play markets. Its purpose is to stop users with a faster TV or data feed betting on an outcome already known. It is not a fault, it is not the app being slow, and it cannot be switched off.

Two habits handle it. First, in fast-moving moments (the last over, a hat-trick ball) accept that your bet may not match — do not chase by re-entering it at worse prices. Second, check Unmatched after every in-play bet and cancel what you no longer want; an unmatched bet stays live until the market closes and can match later at a moment you would not choose. A match-day routine

Users who do well in-play on cricket tend to follow the same routine, and it has nothing to do with predicting the winner.

Before the toss. Open Today, tap the match, note the Match Odds price for each side. Read the pitch report and the weather (why they matter). Decide your total stake for the match — a percentage of your balance, set now, not changed later.

At the toss. Prices move on the toss decision. If you had a view that depended on batting first, this is when it plays out. Session markets open.

First six overs. The most-traded session of a T20. The line moves ball by ball; the honest edge here is knowing the ground’s average powerplay score better than the market does.

The app shows a score line beside the odds — runs, wickets, overs, sometimes the required rate. It does not show ball-by-ball commentary, wagon wheels or player stats. Session and fancy markets often have lower per-bet maximums than Match Odds. Reading the match card before you bet

Each match row shows more than the teams. The number of open markets tells you how deep the coverage is — an international will show dozens, a domestic T20 a handful. The volume figure (where the panel shows one) tells you how liquid Match Odds is; thin markets have wide gaps between the best back and best lay price, and every bet in them costs you that gap. The live indicator tells you whether the placement delay is already in force. Tapping the match opens the market list; tapping a market opens the ladder with the three best prices each side. A useful habit is to open Match Odds and look at the gap before anything else: a 1.90/1.92 market is worth trading, a 1.80/2.10 market is not.

Multi-match days

On days with three or more matches — a PSL double-header plus an international — the desk’s advice is to pick one. Users who spread stakes across every match on the card lose track of exposure, leave unmatched bets open in matches they have stopped watching, and end the day unable to say which bet lost what. Exposure is a single number across all open bets; three matches of in-play positions can hit the limit and block the bet you actually want. Matches in Australia, the Caribbean and the Americas start at odd hours in Pakistan.
